World Language Essential Standards (WLES) Resources for Dual Language/Immersion Programs


The K-5 Dual Language Curriculum was completed as part of the 2005 - 2008 FLAP grant project "Building the K-5 Infrastructure for Dual Language/Immersion Programs." The K - 5 Dual Language Standards was drafted, piloted, and revised by teachers and administrators representing 11 dual language/ immersion schools in the state to guide the development of language competencies in these programs and is inclusive of all modern foreign languages.

All of the information from the K-5 Dual Language Standards has now been incorporated into the World Language Essential Standards and extended to include K-12 standards and clarifying objectives for dual language/immersion programs. Proficiency outcome expectations for students are presented as ranges to accommodate the different models of dual language/immersion programs and the varying amounts of time spent learning content in the target language.
