Join Dr. Joan Lachance, UNC Charlotte Assistant Professor of TESL, and Ivanna M T Anderson, NCDPI ESL Consultant, State Dl/I Team Member from 8:30 - 4:00. Registration is at 8. Lunch is on your own.
Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) programs are growing rapidly in NC. Join us to explore the NC context for DL/I, pedagogy highlighting biliteracy and second language acquisition, authentic assessment, Dl/I program structure, and program administration. This session is applicable for those already involved in DL/I programs as well as for those who are in the exploration phase.
The training will benefit the participant in understanding the overarching goals of a Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) program in the North Carolina context. This training will build your skill set in understanding the vertical articulation necessary for any DL/I program. We will not delve into specific activities, games or lesson planning.

Description - NCDPI is offering a one day DL/I Overview.

Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) programs are growing rapidly in NC. Join us to explore the NC context for DL/I, pedagogy highlighting biliteracy and second language acquisition, authentic assessment, Dl/I program structure, and program administration. This session is applicable for those already involved in DL/I programs as well as for those who are in the exploration phase.

This is not a lesson planning or "make and take session". It is most applicable to those in a leadership role.

  • Module 3: Authentic Assessment in Dual Language
  • Module 4: Dual Language Program Structures
  • Module 5: Program Implementation
